Lessons from Impeachment trial for HOA-Land

If you wondered why I have posted about the dysfunctional Washington and President, here are some lessons for HOA-Land.

1.  Words spoken and conduct before and earlier in any event or situation can be held against you, or the BOD, HOA attorney, or manager.

2.  Conduct and words over time can demonstrate a pattern of wrongful behavior by HOA and its advisors.

3.  The national pro-HOA lobbying firm has focused homeowner attention on events as isolated events of no major consequence.  In other words, they directed members to look at the trees and not see the repeated pattern of wrongful behavior — forest thru the trees.

Our new #PresidentBiden and #VicePresidentHarris have a task before them if they truly seek to unite America.  There are some 23% of Americans live under special laws for special entities known as #HOAs – #homeownerassociations – that are authoritarian local governments not subject to the #Constitution as required by all local and state governments.

In total, these fragmented HOAs constitute The HOA-Land Nation within America, actively encouraged and supported by all state legislatures to some degree or another.  Only the federal government can act Restoring the lost Constitution to HOA-Land.  I brought this very need to the attention of the Trump presidency with no results (Rogue presidents: Trump and HOAs). A Plan Toward Restructuring the HOA Model of Governance has been proposed to this effect.

I now call upon President Biden and Vice President Harris to truly unite all Americans under the Constitution and the laws of the land.

HOAs as ‘windmills’

This is my statement on the rejection of my efforts to restore constitutional protections to HOAs by a society suffering from a decay and decline in ethical, moral, and democratic values.

The reality of the HOA “windmills”

This metallic wall sculpture has been hanging on my wall for some 43 years. Bought at an arts and crafts show in a small town in Westchester County, NY.  I thought about selling it some 7 years ago but decided to hold on to it for some reason or other. Recently, I’ve come to the conclusion that acquiring it was a sign of my destiny, which turned out to be my 20 years of activism for substantive constitutional HOA reform legislation.

Most people will recognize the sculpture as the delusional knight Don Quixote doing battle against ferocious giants –windmills. 

However, Miquel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote de La Mancha (published in 2 volumes in 1605 and 1615)  has  deeper meanings relating to persons of high morals and ideals in a society that has  lost the values of chivalry and honor – of doing the right thing and coming to the aid of others. 

Cervantes portrays Quixote as being out of touch with the reality of his times.  As for my efforts, the windmills are real. They are HOAs. There are numerous reviews of Don Quixote revealing Cervantes’ deeper meanings as quoted in several examples below:

“He had the moral courage in him to go beyond the ordinary in spite of those around him thinking of him as an outlier. He could imagine what others couldn’t — the first step to greatness and leadership.

“After Quixote had imagined what was possible, he had it in him to commit to it and believe in the purity of his goals.

“The novel’s message that individuals can be right while society is wrong was considered radical for its day.”

I have written about the culture within HOA-Land; I have written about the decline and decay in society’s moral, ethical, and democratic values. For the most part, my analyses and warnings have been ignored by elected officials and politicians at all levels, by the public at large, and by a large majority of homeowners living in HOAs. So, it appears that like Don Quixote,  I am out-of-step with the reality of these times.

But it doesn’t make me wrong!  Historians will judge.

Escaping the HOA cult environment

There is a mass psychology present in HOA-Land — a cult environment. Everyone is vulnerable to cult recruitment. The followers cannot be held to blame because of their deceptive recruitment. There is a lack of awareness and information in regard to how the cult truly works and how it motives people.

Escaping the conditioning and indoctrination that creates the cult  mentality can be accomplished through debriefing techniques. The goal of debriefing is to get the cult member to think for himself and re-evaluate his situation. Debriefing methods can include:

educating the cult member on thought-reform techniques and helping him to recognize those methods in his own cult experience

asking questions that encourage the cult member to think in a critical, independent way, helping him to recognize that type of thinking and praising him for it

attempting to produce an emotional connection to his former life by introducing objects from his past and having family members share their memories of his pre-cult existence

Cult behavior within HOA-Land

There is a mass psychology present in HOA-Land. Mass psychology is a study of how your behavior is influenced by large groups of people — “birds of the same feather flock together.” It is the result of the longtime conditioning and indoctrination into identifying with the principles and beliefs promoted by the CAI School of HOA Governance. Following the advice and guidelines of cult experts to focus on the need to reeducate cult followers, my Plan to restructure HOAs begins with the need to reorient the BOD and the members away from the CAI School doctrine. This is a critical first step toward substantive HOA reforms!
